HMS is excited to announce that we have located our future head of school, who will transition on board in May as Ms. Michele retires after 23 years on campus…

Hilltop Montessori School is pleased to announce the appointment of Dave DeHarde as its new Head of School. Dave currently works as Assistant Head of School at the Montessori Community School in Durham, NC. He will begin his new role starting in May 2021 working alongside Michele Wilensky, our current Head of School, to ensure a smooth transition. Dave grew up in Tallassee, Alabama, and later moved to North Carolina where he attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, earning a B.A. in Theater (Minor in Religious Studies), and a Masters degree in School Administration. He first became involved with the Montessori method in 2002 at the Greensboro Montessori School where he worked as a Primary and Lower Elementary teacher for seven years. His previous administrative experience includes two years as Campus Director at the Boyd School in Ashburn, VA, and Assistant Head of School for Facilities and Operations for the last five years at the Montessori Community School in Durham, NC. Dave is also certified in Early Childhood Education by the American Montessori Society. Dave and his wife Camille have been married for eleven years and have two children. Xavier, 9, and Abel, 5, will both attend Hilltop Montessori starting with the 2021-2022 school year. Aside from his family and Montessori, Dave’s other passion is Music. He owns a collection of guitars and has been performing at live venues for many years. “I am thrilled that Dave will be our next head of school. Upon announcing my retirement, I truly felt that I could not leave Hilltop unless the school was in good hands and Dave will undoubtedly serve tirelessly with the same passion that others bring to our community. His love of Montessori and passion for independent school education was particularly evident during the selection process. His lengthy history of experience will bring not only a wealth of insight to our students and faculty but a real inspiration to all. I am extremely confident in his abilities, credentials, and personal strengths and I am excited to hear about his progress over the coming years,” said Michele Wilensky. We would like to thank the members of the search committee, including Eric Fox, Peggy DuPuy, Cindi Stehr, and Michele Wilensky, for their diligent work in selecting a future leader for Hilltop Montessori. The committee conducted a national search, interviewed many outstanding candidates, and is confident that Dave is the right choice to navigate Hilltop going forward. We look forward to welcoming Dave and his family in May of 2021!
