A Haven for Learning
Curiosity, and happiness, come to life in a place where children are allowed to follow their interests and explore their surroundings. Hilltop Montessori School, literally and figuratively, creates a haven for growth every day with students moving and active inside classrooms filled with educational materials designed to engage them in hands-on learning and also outdoors with time spent in gardens and on a school campus that has been designated as a Certified Wildlife Habitat.
“One test of the correctness of educational procedure is the happiness of the child.” Maria Montessori
Montessori Learning Environments Fully Engage Students,
Individually and as Community Members
Multi-age classrooms create a community that allows students to teach and learn, lead and follow, and cooperate and collaborate. Students actively work with each other in what becomes a family-like setting. Two faculty in each classroom from toddler through sixth grade allow for individualized education.
Classrooms are organized to encourage hands-on learning in an atmosphere of freedom within limits led by teachers who follow the spontaneous activity and interests of the child. This encourages exploration and discovery, as well as independence.
Service to others happens within the classroom, throughout the school and beyond to the broader community. All are valued as individuals and guided to be responsible, respectful citizens of their school and the world.
“We must therefore create a favorable environment that will encourage the flowering of a child’s natural gifts.”Maria Montessori
Hilltop Montessori School and Its Students—Thriving Naturally
Fostering a love of learning that will last a lifetime is the focus of every classroom at Hilltop. Individualized learning plans are created for each student in an atmosphere of study that will be challenging but not overwhelming, based on a pace that suits each child.
Hilltop’s students, from 18-month-old toddlers to eighth grade middle schoolers, benefit from a beautiful, natural campus comprised of a LEED certified green building. Additional programming spaces include a gym, art studio, stage, music practice and performance areas, library, science lab and outdoor learning experiences.
Students form great bonds of respect and caring with their classroom teachers, as well as with the engaging, knowledgeable and fun Spanish, music, art and physical education teachers they spend time with each day. Hilltop seeks to offer enriching opportunities to all its students in the classroom and beyond.
“The things he sees are not just remembered, they form a part of his soul.”Maria Montessori
